OSCF puts on three major state tournaments each year:
(1) the Individual State Championships in Seaside (April 17-18, 2026 in Seaside)
All sections are 5 games, but time controls vary depending on section. See official rules, eligibility, schedules, and hotel rates here. (Link is to 2025 rules. 2026 rules may be updated when registration is posted Jan/February.)
(2) the Coed State Team Championship (TBD, probably in March, 2026 @ Oregon Convention Center)
(3) the All Star Invitational Tournament (TBD in fall 2025 @ The DoubleTree Hotel in Portland.)
Qualification requirements for each tournament are listed below. Check back later for more details, including how to register.

For the Main event you need:
- 15 lifetime USCF regular-rated games.
- 8 in-season games, ending March 29.
-At least one OSCF-qualifying tournament within last year. (Tournaments listed on the OSCF calendar.)

Friday night Blitz & Bughouse Tournaments
These are fun events on Friday evening that are open to all scholastic chess players, including new players.
Oregon All Stars

Automatic invitations are players who:
have won the Kathryn Rose Taylor sportsmanship award at Seaside.
have appeared on the quarterly top 10 lists of Oregon players in the previous year. You only need to appear once to qualify.
Coed State Team Championships
- The purpose of the Coed State Team Championship is to encourage school-based chess programs that incorporate participation from the whole school.
- To maintain the integrity of the Co-Ed nature of the event, teams may have a maximum of three male players competing in any given round.
- New players welcome. (New memberships included in registration.)
- Schools may include within-district homeschool students. Multiple teams from the same school encouraged!
- Teams composed of students from multiple schools may compete in the mixed-teams division.
