The 18th Annual OSCF State Championship is a two-day chess festival in the beautiful town of Seaside, OR. In addition to crowning Grand Champions for Primary, Elementary, Middle and High School, the event features generous awards for the top finishers in numerous under sections, which means everyone has a chance to earn recognition. There are also exciting side-tournaments, including blitz and bughouse on Friday night and a Friends and Family Tournament on Saturday.

ELIGIBILITY: Eligible players are Oregon residents in Grades K-12 and aged 5-19 who play 15 rated games within a single rating system (FIDE, USCF regular, USCF regular online), including 8 games played between April 4, 2023 and April 15, 2024 including at least one “OSCF State Qualifier” listed in green font on the NWSRS calendar. [Note: The game requirement was clearly listed listed in the above link for the entirety of registration, but was not fully listed on the registration page itself. We apologize for any confusion for those who did not realize that rated games were a requirement for participation in the state championship. Players who are short of qualifying are invited to compete in our Friends and Family Section.]

CHECK-IN:

Check-in times will be strictly enforced. Players who do not check-in on time will not be paired for the first round and will receive a zero score for that round. No exceptions.

  1. FRIDAY APRIL 19 9:30AM-10:30AM: Check-in for Middle School and High School Platinum (Elite) Sections.

  2. SATURDAY APRIL 20 7:30AM- 9:00AM: Check-in for all other Sections. Plan ahead and expect a line.

MAIN EVENT ENTRY FEE:

  1. $40 if registered by 11:59 pm on Friday April 5

  2. $50 to register by 11:59 pm Friday, April 12

  3. $60 late registration ends at 11:59 pm Wednesday, April 17

  4. No on-site registration. No payment at the door (except Blitz/Bughouse)

DIVISIONS (APPROXIMATE):

  1. Primary (Grades K-2): Platinum (Six Top-Rated Players); Up to two equally divided lower sections with breaks approximately at 600

  2. Elementary (Grades 3-5): Platinum (1100+); Up to five equally divided lower sections with breaks approximately at 900, 700, 500

  3. Middle (Grades 6-8): Platinum 1300+; Up to four equally divided lower sections with break approximately at 1100, 900, 700

  4. High (Grades 9-12): Platinum 1400+; Up to two equally divided lower sections with breaks approximately at 1100

RATINGS: USCF rated (USCF memberships required for all participants and will be given free to new and renewing players); Clocks and notation required in all sections except non-championship Primary Sections. Perfect notation is not expected, but everyone should make an effort!

EQUIPMENT: Chess sets, notation sheets, and pencils all provided. OSCF will provide a large number of clocks, but not enough for every board, so please bring your own if possible.

FOOD & DRINK: Food and beverage will be available for purchase at the Seaside Convention Center.
