Welcome to Pudddletown’s 2025 September Webinar hosted by NM Austin Tang! Most of us were probably taught to play the Italian when we just started out. As you progressed, you started to find more and more tricks (the Fried Liver, the Bg5 pin, etc.), but your opponents also learned and refuted the tricks. This is why you should learn the Ruy Lopez. It allows white to get a slightly better position, even if the opponent plays correctly. The middlegame will have clear plans and even the most experienced players can’t refute it.
