Beat the Coach: Chess Summer Camp


Rose City Chess is offering full-day and weeklong summer training camps again throughout 2026! Come join other chess-loving kids for a full day of lessons and games. This summer, our camps are focusing on particular chess concepts every week. Attendees of our Beat the Coach Camps receive a trophy for beating our coaches in a game of chess with knight odds!

Our training camps are fun, focused, and completely immersive. Each day includes dedicated time for structured lessons, puzzles, studies, game analysis, and USCF rated games. We include breaks for less strenuous (and more silly) activities.

All camps will be 100% in-person. Students will be grouped according to playing strength. Students receive puzzles and training materials suitable for their level.

Location: St. Lukes: Camps held at St. Lukes are held in the downstairs fellowship hall at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 4595 SW California St, Portland, OR 97219

Ages: 2nd-8th grade (Exceptions can be made for 1st graders with chess experience - email admin@rosecitychess.com to discuss)

Drop off at 9:00-9:30 am and Pick up at 3:30-4:00 pm

Cost: $369 for every day of the week 9AM-4PM

Lunches and snacks are not provided, so please send your own. We do often have a special treat though in the afternoon.
