Winter Wave Classic @ Newport High School

Scholastic students and teams are invited to the coast on January 10th, 2026 for a USCF-rated chess tournament. Proceeds to benefit the Newport High School Chess Club!   Tournament is a qualifier for the April 17-18th OSCF state championship in Seaside. 

Cost: $15 
Payable at the door via cash or credit card.

USCF Memberships Required: First Time USCF Registration fees for scholastic players will be covered by the Oregon Scholastic Chess Federation.

9:30 - Check-In Begins
10:15 - Players' Meeting
10:30 - Round 1
11:30 - Round 2
12:30 to 1:15 - Lunch
1:15 - Round 3
2:15 - Round 4
3:30 - Awards

• East Campus Parking Lot, follow signs to rear entrance

Time Control: 
4 Rounds, Game in 25 minutes with a 5 second delay on the clock. 

Sections: 
Advanced: Middle & High School
Elementary: K-5 (Higher rated elementary students may play up with the advanced section, if desired)

Awards: 
Medals for top 10 finishers
Team Trophy competition for schools with 3 or more students

Refreshments: 
Lunch and drinks included with your registration, or lunch on your own.
