Tournament Free Entry Details (Up to 50 Players Eligible)

a) The first 16 USCF 1000+ rated players can register for FREE. To qualify for free entry, your officially posted USCF rating must be 1000 or higher for the month of the tournament, and you must be among the first 16 players to register in this category.

The first 34 players from the following categories are also eligible for free entry:
b) Female players
c) Players from low-income families

100% of tournament proceeds (after operating expenses) go to non-profit organizations such as Portland Chess Club, HECSA and Oregon Scholastic Chess Federation. To continue supporting these organizations effectively, starting May 2026, the total number of free entries per tournament will be limited to 50 players(combined across all four categories listed above).

Free Entry Beneficiaries: Since January 2024, when we began tracking this information, we have provided free entries to 922 players based on the eligibility criteria outlined on our website. Below is the complete list of players who have benefited from this program.

Free Entry Player List

The complimentary entries referenced above are provided by Roshen's Chess Academy as a discretionary, goodwill offering. They are not guaranteed entitlements. The Academy reserves the right to deny or revoke such entries at any time, particularly in cases involving unprofessional, disrespectful, or offensive conduct toward staff, volunteers, or other participants.

Although this initiative of offering free entries has been active since January 2024—benefiting 922 players since January 2024—Roshen's Chess Academy reserves the right to change or end the program at any time, without prior notice and at its sole discretion.

Furthermore, recipients of a complimentary entry who fail to participate in a tournament without providing prior notice (cancellations must be submitted no later than 5 PM the night before the event) may forfeit eligibility for future complimentary entries. This policy is necessary due to the limited number of free entries available per tournament.

It's worth noting that Roshen Nair Foundation is also covering the expenses for players from low-income families.
