Oregon Shines at the 2025 US Chess National K–12 Championships

Congratulations to Varun Iyengar of Willamette Valley Academy (Portland, OR) on earning 2nd Place in 8th Grade!

Oregon had a strong and inspiring showing at the 2025 US Chess National K–12 Grade Championships in Spokane. A total of 62 players from across Oregon competed on the national stage, facing top scholastic players from around the country.

Through determination, preparation, and fighting spirit, Oregon students earned multiple national individual, rating class, and team prizes—a remarkable achievement that reflects the depth and growth of scholastic chess in our state.

Congratulations to all the players, families, coaches, schools, and organizers who made this achievement possible. Oregon chess continues to grow in both strength and participation, and these results demonstrate the dedication and talent across our scholastic community.
