Kate Taylor Will Be Missed!

Below is some information for those of you interested in attending a memorial service for Kate and/or extending your condolences and support to the Taylor family.

A few people have wondered about the status of the OSCF Championship, and I want to assure you that I'm absolutely positive that Kate would have wanted the Championship to go forward with its usual celebratory, energetic and fun-but-competitive atmosphere. We will be finding various ways to pay tribute to Kate -- while still honoring what I believe would be her desire to keep the focus on the kids and provide them with a fun and memorable experience. This will be a challenge for many of us in the midst of our personal grief, but it's the least we can do to honor Kate's legacy. (I think she would forgive us for not donning bee and wasp outfits for the bughouse tournament, though. That's a Kate Original.)

In addition to the information, below, I've been in contact with the editor of the local Clatskanie newspaper. She will contact me when Kate's obituary is posted online, and I will share that link here, as well. There may be additional details in that regarding the family's wishes or other opportunities to pay your respects.

Memorial Service
A celebration of Kate Taylor's life will be held on Monday, April 12, at 4pm at Clatskanie Middle/High School. The address is 471 Bel Air Drive, Clatskanie. It is my understanding that the service is being spearheaded by the parents of the Clatskanie Chess Club, so this will be the best opportunity to gather with other chess friends and remember Kate.

Cards and Flowers
Cards and flowers can be sent to the Taylor family at 80406 Bodine Road, Clatskanie, OR 97016. I am told by local sources that, in lieu of flowers, there is likely a need for financial support. More below.

Benefit Fund
As many of you know, Kate's husband, Warren, was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2008 -- and continues that battle today. At that time, a benefit fund was set up for the family at Sterling Savings Bank. Shelli Mullins passes along the following information:

I'm writing to let you know that the account set up back when we did the spaghetti fundraiser is still open if anyone asks how they can help the family out. Kate had only been using it sparingly and only when I pestered her.
Here is the address and account number if anyone wants to mail it directly to the bank.

(Your local branch of Sterling Savings Bank should also be able to accept donations)

Ellissa Parnon created a web album of photos of Kate Taylor that anyone may add to through the OSCF yahoo groups website. Please post any photos that you would like to share on the OSCF Yahoo groups website as I know that we would all appreciate seeing and sharing them. Thanks very much. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OSCF/photos/album/0/list
